ARTISTS STATMENT
When you say I'm going to the beach on the northern west coast it can mean something different for everyone.
This part of the earth is raw and rugged, cold and crisp. In the summer the shore line is warm, sometimes even hot, but you can't help but explore instead of relax. The rocky beaches are lined with driftwood, full of history. When you walk the shores, you discover it is teaming with life, below your feet and above your head. When you do sit and relax, I find instead of lounging, its more quite contemplation. Its a place to reflex, meditate and focus on the wonders of existence. The sea has been a place of ritual, guidance and of course death. The beach is a wild place of discovery, a source of food for every species and rich in diversity of purpose.
When I painted this painting I was just focusing on what needed to happen to make a decent painting, but I find after I have created something, that's when meaning and purpose revels itself.
