Spring Inspiration

The spring air is so rich and warm. I'm taking advantage of this time to gather references for new paintings. All of the aromas of the fresh blossoms and pollens float with the breeze and the sun shines through the bright greens and emerald waters.
When I look for inspiration it's more then what I see. I tune into how the warm sun and cool breeze feels on my skin. I listen to the birds and watch when they grace me with their presence. How do these creatures move? What colours do I spot? Where do they like to land? I find all the different types of trees and pick out the ones that speak to me that day. I find textures, lighting, form and colours to be what I'm drawn to. My favourite in when bright rich colours from the spring greenery reflect into the glassy waters. All of this and more gets infused into the spirit of my paintings no matter the subject matter.
I like to paint how a tree could move, or the glittering waters. Leaves on a tree get painted onto the canvas in a natural rhythm as if the wind carries them around the trunks and through the forest. Branches twist and mingle on the canvas as if dancing to to natures tune. I love to imagine fairies living among the trees living daily lives as we do. They infuse human expression into my work and adds a story to be told.

These are just some of my thoughts for the day before I go and make my kids some dinner and wanted to share :)
I have no idea what the warmer seasons will bring me this year, but I'm excited to let it unfold.
