"Warm Chill"

On Vancouver Island it only really snows once a year and it goes away just as quickly as it came. We are then left with slush and black ice. As the temperature rises it melts the snow, then dips back down to create an ice rink. But when it does snow for the first time in the year, and its fresh, what a treat for the eyes. I love when the sun is rising over a fresh blanket of glittering snow. Every time I spend the day looking out my window as my cat tries to catch the falling snowflakes from the window with her eyes. I get out for a walk and soak up the moment by noticing the snow flaks fall, the tree shadows atop the crisp white and untouched fluff. The way the snow clings to the tree branches and slowly slips bits off to distribute the weight of the frozen mass. I want to notice more colours in the snow this year cause you can find far more then white. The shadows laying upon the white can be a blue or purple tone. The greens turn into cooler earthy tones and the sun hitting the forest becomes a vivid deep warm yellow or orange.

I'm feeling inspired to create some more winter landscapes so look out for some up coming new pieces all from Mt Washington here on Vancouver Island BC. Conveniently, I will be hanging some artwork up the mountain in a coffee shop during the whole month of February 2026. I hope I can create some new art to take up there in time, but no promises. Cheers is to a great start of the year and if your a fellow Islander, make sure you enjoy the snow while its here despite it being a little cumbersome at times.
